The Meander Valley Council has announced the resignation of Councillor Deborah White due to health challenges, with Christine Cronshaw set to take her place following a recount conducted by the Tasmanian Electoral Commission.

Councillor White, who returned to the Council in September 2024 through a recount, has decided to step down after experiencing a decline in health in November. Her resignation marks the conclusion of her third term, bringing an end to more than 11 years of dedicated service to the Meander Valley community.

Letter to the Editor

Her tenure has been defined by her commitment to community development, environmental advocacy, and support for local arts initiatives. Mayor Wayne Johnston expressed his gratitude for White’s contributions and praised her long-standing dedication to the community.

“Deb’s experience and dedication have been invaluable to the Council and the Meander Valley community,” Mayor Johnston said. “Her contributions over many years have left a lasting impact, and we wish her all the best as she focuses on her health.”

Taking White’s place is Christine Cronshaw, a retired accountant and financial planner who has lived in Meander Valley with her husband for nearly 30 years. Cronshaw has a strong background in community engagement, having volunteered at the Great Western Tiers Visitor Centre in Deloraine, where she has assisted visitors from diverse backgrounds in exploring the region’s many attractions.

Expressing her enthusiasm for her new role, Cronshaw highlighted her deep connection to the area and her commitment to its future.

“I’m honoured to join the Council and continue to contribute to the vibrant community of Meander Valley,” she said. “Having called this region home for almost three decades, I’m passionate about ensuring it remains a wonderful place to live, work and explore. I am very pleased to have been elected and am really looking forward to the role.”

Mayor Johnston extended a warm welcome to Cronshaw and expressed confidence in her ability to serve the community effectively.

“I welcome Christine as a Councillor for the Meander Valley community. I am sure she’ll be a fantastic addition,” he said.

Cronshaw is set to officially assume her duties at the Meander Valley Council’s February meeting.
