Deloraine will celebrate the official opening of its new Pocket Park this Saturday from 11:30am, offering locals and visitors a fresh community space right in the town centre.
Located between Deloraine Town Cafe and Deloraine Espresso at 33 Emu Bay Road, the pocket park will be officially opened at 11:30am. The Deloraine and Meander Valley community is encouraged to come along and enjoy a day of entertainment, live music, activities for all ages and plenty of community spirit.
Letter to the Editor
The project is the result of Arts Deloraine, who have poured significant time, effort and funding into transforming the small site into a welcoming place for everyone. Other major sponsors include Meander Valley Council, Community Bank Deloraine and Surrounds and the Deloraine Dramatic Society. The site had been vacant for more than 15 years. Designed as more than just a place to sit, the Pocket Park is intended to serve as a hub for gatherings, performances and community events.
The Deloraine Pocket Park will be available to book as a space (free of charge) via a new Arts Deloraine website. Electricity will incur a nominal fee of $10.
The Pocket Park has been created as a space to encourage artistic activity of all kinds and bring people together in Deloraine. It comes at the right time, offering a lift to the town centre, and with its free access and central location it is set to become a much-needed community asset.
