There are renewed calls for drivers to slow down and be alert to wildlife.
Local wildlife carers say many of the animal deaths and injuries on our roads could be avoided if motorists reduced their speed, particularly at dawn and dusk when animals are most active. Slowing down gives drivers more time to react and increases their chance of avoiding collisions.

Signage also plays a role in reminding drivers to take extra care. On public roads, the responsibility for signage falls to local government, while on private property it rests with individual landowners.
Meander Valley Council has recently erected additional signs along Quamby Brook Road, in locations where wildlife collisions are known to be common.
Anyone who hits an animal is urged to call the 24-hour Wildlife Rescue Hotline on 0447 264 625, so trained carers can provide assistance.
