The Central North Police Division, that encompasses Deloraine, Longford and Campbeltown areas have had some very pleasing results for the year so far.
In the category of Public Order the Division has seen a reduction of 24%, That reduction has been seen the most in the Deloraine/Westbury area where there has been a reduction of over 50% in calls such as assaults, disturbances, noise and offensive behaviour. This is an excellent result for the area.

Crime indicators such as building burglaries have also shown a significant decrease of 25%, once again with Deloraine leading the way. Reports of stolen vehicles are also down, however vehicle break-ins are slightly up. Shoplifting offences have increased across the Division but are significantly reduced in Deloraine and Westbury.
Police continue to focus on firearm storage requirements and remind all firearm owners to have their firearms stored in accordance with legislation. Police have also undertaken a number of traffic operations in the Division that include Operational Safe Arrival over Easter. This involved high visibility police presence on rural roads and the major highways and the conducting of 100’s of RBT’s and drug tests. It’s pleasing that the vast majority of motorists are driving safely but speeding infringements have increased from last year.
The major event for the Division was Party in the Paddock, held at Quercus Park in February and crowd behaviour was excellent with only a handful of people being ejected from the venue, either by police or security. After the event, however, a large number of drivers were intercepted with either drugs or alcohol in their system which was disappointing.
Finally, Deloraine Police welcomed three new constables to the area in recent months. Constables Plummer, Baker and Lawlor have all transferred to the area from Launceston and bring with them experience and enthusiasm to work in country roles.
