Spring is here! And with it, a return of WOAD – Windows on Art Deloraine – for 2025!

For two weeks, from 24 October until 7 November, and coinciding with both the Tasmanian Craft Fair (31 October – 2 November) and the Meander Valley Art Awards (25 October to 9 November), the shop windows in Deloraine’s main road will become a street-long gallery, with yellow dots marking a trail for visitors and locals alike to discover new artwork.

Letter to the Editor

Arts Deloraine would once again like to invite all artists—emerging and established, traditional and experimental, painters, sculptors, photographers, weavers, writers, makers and dreamers—to share their work with our community.

WOAD is more than an exhibition; it is a celebration of the arts in all their forms, a living gallery that welcomes everyone.

WOAD would not be possible without the generous support of our local businesses, who each year offer their windows and their goodwill to artists. Their ongoing commitment has helped make WOAD a tradition—one that strengthens the bond between artists, traders, locals and visitors, and reminds us that art belongs not only in galleries but in the very heart of our community.

Arts Deloraine is proud to present this event once more, providing a platform where art is accessible to all. Whether your work is for sale or simply for sharing, WOAD offers an extraordinary opportunity to reach new audiences, to be part of a much-loved community tradition, and to add your voice to the collective creativity of our town.

Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra

We had another fantastic turnout to see ‘Rachmaninov’s Rhapsody’ in August! So good to have so many people come along!

October’s screening is ‘A Night at the Italian Opera’, and will be a week earlier than usual, on Sunday, 19 October, from 4 to 6pm at the Little Theatre.

Puccini, Verdi and Rossini are among the greatest names in Italian opera. These three composers brought big emotions to their music and a keen understanding of the power of music to touch the hearts of listeners.

The main work in this concert is the Stabat Mater by Rossini, which was composed after the hugely successful composer had retired from the opera house. A setting of an age-old religious poem, the Stabat Mater ponders the grief of Mary, the mother of Christ, as she stands at the foot of the cross. Compelling and emotive, this large-scale work for orchestra, chorus and four vocal soloists presents Rossini at the height of his powers.

The ballet music to Verdi’s Macbeth captures the thrilling intrigue of the Scottish play while the Prelude to La traviata shows Verdi at his most tender and vulnerable. The concert opens with Puccini’s youthful Preludio sinfonico, proof that the 18-year-old composer was already a force to be reckoned with.

The Stabat Mater will be sung in Latin with English subtitles.
