For those that don’t know me, my name is Craig Fox and I am the Police Inspector in charge of the Central North Division. The Division is one of the largest in Tasmania that essentially covers the Northern Midlands and Meander Valley areas. There are operational police stations located at Campbeltown, Longford, Westbury and Deloraine.

The Division consists of one inspector, three sergeants and twenty constables that are required to cover a large area in their day-to-day duties. The key priorities for Police in the Central North are simple – be safe in your home, be safe in public and be safe on the roads.

So far for the police reporting period (financial year) there has been a reduction in most public safety indicators, that include total offences, public order incidents and public place assaults. Public order incidents include disturbances, noise complaints, property damage and offensive behaviour.

Regarding crime, building burglary offences are significantly down, however car burglaries and shoplifting has increased. It’s very pleasing that the Deloraine and Westbury areas have seen a significant reduction in many crime and public order categories. This can be partially attributed to a greater emphasis on interacting with known offenders, especially those on court bail, who are regularly checked to ensure they are complying with bail conditions.

As of the first week of November a Customer Service Operator will be stationed at Deloraine Police Station for 5 days a fortnight. The police station will be open to the public on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of one week and then Tuesday, Wednesday of the second week. Office hours will be 8am to 4pm, however outside of those hours there is an intercom at the front door that will connect you to Tasmania Police.

If the customer service operator cannot assist with an enquiry, then they will arrange for a police officer to attend.

Police are also currently conducting a missing person investigation into Mr Franz Grathwohl. Mr Grathwohl has not been seen since 27 July 2025 in the Golden Valley area. If anyone has any information regarding Mr Grathwohl, can they please contact police or crime stoppers as soon as possible.

Police can be contacted on 131 444 for non-life-threatening matters, 000 for life threatening emergencies. Information that does not require a police response can be reported via crime stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via their website.
