Community members are invited to step into the beauty of the Wildwood Nature Reserve in Deloraine on Saturday 25 October for Wonder @ Wildwood, a free citizen science event that is part of the 2025 Great Southern BioBlitz (Tasmanian Project).

The Great Southern BioBlitz is a global event that encourages people across the Southern Hemisphere to get outside, explore their environment, and record the plants and animals they find. Taking place during spring, when nature is in full bloom, it provides an opportunity to learn more about local biodiversity while contributing to an international scientific project.

Letter to the Editor

Participants will use the free, user friendly iNaturalist app to log their discoveries. No experience is needed, just curiosity and a willingness to look closely at the natural world. Whether you are a seasoned nature enthusiast or simply someone who enjoys a walk outdoors, this event offers a chance to connect with others and share in the wonder of what lives right on our doorstep.

The walk will run from 10am to 12 noon, starting at the Wildwood Reserve entrance (turn right after entering the Deloraine Caravan Park and park in the gravel area). The Wildwood Landcare Group Inc will also be hosting a working bee at the same time, and everyone is welcome to take part.

Participants are encouraged to bring a phone or camera, a water bottle, and to dress for the weather with sturdy shoes, a hat, and comfortable clothing. A BYO picnic will follow for those who would like to relax and enjoy the reserve afterwards.

For more information on Wonder @ Wildwood, please contact Michelle on 0423 193 133.
