With a soul of creativity that runs deep through the entire community, the Meander Valley has drawn visionary makers to its heart for decades. So it is only fitting that the artistic passion of this place plays an  integral role in the fight to preserve it.

Canvases and Cocktails, planned for February 28 at the Meander Valley Performing Arts Centre in Deloraine,  is a unique art event, a celebration of the extraordinary local talent that calls the valley home.

Letter to the Editor

Featuring a dynamic live art auction complemented by a silent art auction, the sale catalogue ranges from affordable local pieces and celebrated Tasmanian artists to interstate and international works, including bowls crafted by one of Australia’s finest wood turners and a work by a Polish artist dated 1602.

When it comes to a palate of a different kind, art lovers will be tempted by the culinary creativity of a fabulous local chef and the region’s finest liquid libations from the likes of Meander Valley Vineyard.

And it’s all in the name of an incredible cause.

Event organiser Mine Watch Meander Valley Inc. (MWMV) is a grassroots community group fighting to  ensure the valley’s spectacular natural environment, its intricate and close-knit social fabric, its creative  heart and its state-wide, national and international tourism appeal are protected from unsustainable and destructive development.

With one project already in the pipeline, numerous other companies have their eyes firmly focused on the  valley.

Canvases and Cocktails will help raise funds to support MWMV’s ongoing fight, now heading to the  Tasmanian Supreme Court, to preserve the landscape and the community that continues to inspire.

Tickets are $30 per person which includes a free drink on arrival and canapes, and available online from  www.events.humanitix.com/canvases-and-cocktails. All enquiries to minewatchMV@gmail.com

Please note door sales will be strictly limited on the night.
