In our Local Legends series, we talk to people within our community about their own lives and things that interest them. In this short interview, we spoke to Lindy Lane, the owner of Valley Pets in Deloraine.

Matt: Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and your store?

    Letter to the Editor

Lyndy: Yes. Hi, my name is Lindy. I originally came out to Australia 47 years ago from UK and live, resided in WA for over 40 years until we discovered this wonderful island called Tasmania. And here we are. We love Tasmania. Yeah. It’s just brilliant.

Love it. I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else. It’s the first time I can say that in 47 years I feel at home. Truly at home. I just love it here. It’s just, it’s very English in a lot of ways. The climate’s perfect for me. It was so damn hot over there. It was getting hotter and hotter and it was just insane.

I just couldn’t stand it anymore. (I was) over it. And once my mother passed, there was no stopping us. We thought, “right, we’re coming”! That’s it. And we haven’t looked back either of us. We absolutely love it here. We’ve made more friends in five years than I did over there and all those years.

    This is great.

Matt: It seems to be relative, not common, but you know, not uncommon.

Lyndy: People are just so friendly and nice here. You know? It’s not hard to make friends here, at all. Not hard at all. People are just generally nice. I think the pace of life is different, that’s why. It’s not a rat race over here, it’s just nice.

Excuse me, but I’m dying for a drink. No, no, yeah. I haven’t had one since this morning.
