We continue our series chatting to local businesses, and sharing what interesting things people in our community are up to. This time, we spoke to Lindy Lane at Valley Pets.

    Lindy: Let’s do it.

    Letter to the Editor

Matt: Can you tell me a little bit about you and your shop?

Lindy: My name is Lyndy and we arrived here five years ago from WA. I’d been living over there for over 40 years and we decided that we’d had enough of the weather and it was time to move on – and what better place to come to than Tassie!

Matt: And what’s the name of your shop and what do you do?

Lindy: Okay, the name of my shop is Valley Pets and this was created because my passion is animals. I love animals. And I’d retired from my previous position or my previous job that I’ve been doing for 35 years, which was caring and looking after people.

But I came to an age where I’m probably too old for it! I probably need to be looked after myself. So I decided to open a business. And what better business than a pet shop? And it was needed in Deloraine.

Matt: And do you have any pets yourself?

Lindy: I do. I have two gorgeous dogs that are behind the counter.

Because that’s the other joy of having your own business. You can bring your pets to work. Especially if it’s a pet shop. Because it draws the customers in. And some people just come in to have a chat some days. Because I’m quite a friendly person and they like to see the dogs. And mroe often than not, I have people coming in and just playing with the dogs.

Matt: What are some of your most popular products?

Lindy: Sell a lot of dog food and cat food. Particularly dog treats. People like to buy the dog treats. And I also have a pick and mix doggy bar, which I also decided to do. It was my idea. So that people can just get a little bag and take whatever biscuits they want and I weigh them.

And they’re quite minimal in price. And yeah. And they’re also locally made in Tasmania.

You can find Lindy Lane and Valley Pets at 14c Emu Bay Road, Deloraine.
