Deloraine has earned national recognition, taking out silver in the Small Tourism Town category at Australia’s Top Tourism Town Awards held at Parliament House in Canberra in September.

The accolade follows the town’s earlier win in the 2025 Tassie’s Top Tourism Town Awards, which secured its place on the national stage.

Letter to the Editor

“This award is a perfect reflection of the heart and soul of Deloraine. It’s not just about the scenery or the attractions, it’s about our community, the people who make this town feel like home. This is a win for all of us here in Meander Valley,” says Acting Meander Valley Mayor Stephanie Cameron.

The nomination for the national awards was coordinated by the Great Western Tiers Tourism Association, following Deloraine’s success at the state level. The Australia-wide competition, hosted annually, celebrates towns that embody the spirit of regional tourism. Entries are assessed based on attractions, amenities, accommodation, hospitality, and visitor engagement, with towns grouped by population size.

Deloraine competed against six other towns in the Small Tourism Town category, ultimately being awarded second place in a field representing the best of regional Australia.

“Deloraine going on to take out silver on a national level shows the heart that every person who contributes to the magic of Deloraine has,” says Acting Mayor Cameron.

The town’s bid was supported by a broad cross-section of the community, reflecting the strong local collaboration between artists, farmers, volunteers, business owners, and residents. Organisers credit this collective spirit as central to Deloraine’s appeal to visitors and judges alike.

“Thank you to everyone at the Great Western Tiers Tourism Association for everything you’ve done to showcase Deloraine and our beautiful region. Your passion for this valley has played a big part in helping others see what makes this place so special,” says the Acting Deputy Mayor.

“We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who voted, shared stories, and supported the journey,” she says.

This national recognition marks a milestone for Deloraine and the broader Meander Valley community, placing the town firmly on Australia’s tourism map. Local leaders hope the award will further boost visitation and appreciation of the region’s cultural and natural assets.

Deloraine’s national recognition is a testament to the passion, community spirit, and deep love locals have for their region.
