As the Westbury Shamrocks Cricket Club went into the Christmas–New Year break, the club reflected on a strong and consistent first half of the 2025 season, with positive results across senior men’s, women’s and junior competitions. With finals approaching in March, the Shamrocks are well positioned heading towards the end of summer.

The First Grade men’s side has enjoyed an outstanding start, sitting first on the ladder in both the Greater Northern Cup and Cricket North competitions. The team has been led by the consistent batting of Daniel Murfet, who tops the club run scoring with 300 runs, supported by captain Joel Lloyd on 232 runs. With the ball, Kieren Hume has been the club’s leading wicket-taker with 17 wickets, closely followed by premiership player Oliver Wood on 16 wickets, forming a reliable and threatening bowling partnership.

In Second Grade, Westbury sits second on the ladder, trailing only South Launceston. Club coach Chathura Athukorala has again led from the front, topping the run scoring with 223 runs, while Luke Watson has added stability to the batting lineup with 132 runs after returning from an off-season overseas. The bowling has been led by Sahil Choudhary with 14 wickets, supported by Suhail Kumar on nine wickets, providing consistent pressure throughout the opening rounds.

The Third Grade side has been one of the club’s standout performers, sitting first on the ladder at the halfway point. Robindeep Singh leads the batting with 226 runs, with Mohammadzuber Diwan close behind on 181 runs. With the ball, Yadu Satheesan has been exceptional, claiming 19 wickets to lead the entire Third Grade competition, while Singh has also contributed strongly with 12 wickets.

In Fourth Grade, Westbury currently sits third out of four teams, with several close contests defining the early part of the season. Matthew Hernyk leads the batting with 106 runs, followed by James Nesbit on 93 runs. Bowling duties have been shared effectively, with Josh House leading the wicket-taking on 11 wickets, and Eoin McMahon close behind with nine wickets.

The Women’s team continues to go from strength to strength and currently sits second on the ladder, level on points with Riverside. Stacey Norton-Smith has been the standout performer across the competition, leading both the club and league run scoring with an impressive 386 runs, while also topping the wicket-taking with 12 wickets, alongside emerging pace bowler Charlotte Clayton, who shares the lead on wickets. Summer Cherdron has also made valuable contributions with 155 runs. Stacey currently leads the club’s ShamWow Podcast Player of the Year voting, reflecting her influence on and off the field.

At junior level, the St Pats Shamrocks have enjoyed success in Under 12s Division 1, with Noah Spencer and Loken McGlinn leading the batting, while Jack Cowan and Miller Pendrey have each taken seven wickets. In Under 14s Division 2, Spencer again leads the batting, with Cooper Smith topping the bowling.

For Westbury juniors, Jaxon Curbishley leads the Under 14s Division 1 batting with 130 runs, while Lachlan O’Keefe leads the bowling with five wickets. In Under 16s, Matthew Hernyk tops the batting, and Levi Dadson leads the bowling.

Off the field, the club enjoyed a successful Family Christmas Night, bringing together senior, junior and Junior Blasters families for a BBQ and festivities, highlighted by the ever-popular Golden Stump competition, run by club stalwart John Kedey. A busy social calendar continues with a Races Night, Sponsors Day, a Family Sponsors Day at Spreyton Cider Co, a Ladies Day Wine Tour in February, and the annual Last Man Standing Reverse Draw on Saturday, February 28 at the Westbury Function and Recreation Centre.

The Westbury Shamrocks look forward to welcoming supporters throughout the summer and building momentum as the club pushes towards finals in March.
