What a great start to the year! Arts Deloraine and two of our wonderful members were nominated for 4 awards in the Meander Valley Council Volunteer Awards: Arts Deloraine received the award for the Meander Valley Arts and Culture Award, and the Community Project Award for the Pocket Park. Our long-term members Louise Middleton and Zsuzsanna Handelsmann were also both nominated for Citizen of the Year – well deserved for all their hard work bringing the Pocket Park to life!
The Pocket Park has been busy with buskers, with Hayley Howe, Dasyure, and many others providing us with some great entertainment at the start of this year. Don’t forget you can book the space yourself, either message us on Facebook or visit our website at artsdeloraine.com.au

Voices Unbound: International Women’s Day at Pocket Park
Sunday 8 March 2pm – 5pm Pocket Park, Deloraine
Arts Deloraine warmly invites women from across the Meander Valley to gather in the heart of Deloraine this International Women’s Day for Voices Unbound — a free, inclusive celebration of women’s creativity, expression and lived experience.
The North Coast Post: BSB 633 000 · Account number: 2366 8 9535
Held at Pocket Park, in Deloraine’s CBD this relaxed afternoon event will centre on women’s voices shared through spoken word, poetry, music, storytelling, readings, comedy and reflective personal stories.
The program is intentionally open and welcoming, encouraging participation from women of all ages and backgrounds — including those who may be sharing their work or voice publicly for the first time.
Rather than a formal stage production, Voices Unbound offers a supportive, community-led format. Short performance slots will unfold gently across the afternoon, guided by a welcoming MC who will ensure the tone remains inclusive, respectful and celebratory. No prior performance experience is required — curiosity, authenticity and a willingness to share are more than enough.
Events such as Voices Unbound play an important role in strengthening community wellbeing. They create visible space for women in public life, amplify diverse perspectives, and reinforce Deloraine’s identity as a progressive, arts-led town. Artistically, the event supports local women through performance opportunities, encourages emerging voices, and continues to establish Pocket Park as a vibrant cultural stage.
Whether you would like to perform, support another woman, or simply listen and be present, you will be warmly welcome.
Don’t forget to keep an eye out for the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra concerts coming back to the Little Theatre later in the year, and follow us on Facebook (we have two pages – Arts Deloraine, and Deloraine Pocket Park), or check out the notice board in the Pocket Park, to keep up to date with what else is happening around Deloraine!
