Andi Mara, of 3rd Room Music, is sharing his musical expertise with Deloraine!
Every third Sunday of the month, from 10am onwards, Andi will be bringing his drums and mentoring skills to the Deloraine Pocket Park.

Some of you may know Andi from his wonderful shop – Shandi’s Corner – where he often gathered musicians from all over to perform, both inside and out on the street. As Andi says, music is his purpose, and it’s clear from the way he throws himself into anything and everything musical: teaching, mentoring, performing and supporting other musicians.
Andi and his wife, Sherynn Woodward (who is originally from NSW), moved from Indonesia to Australia with just two suitcases each, and with a huge leap in housing costs, Andi had to make some money! He stopped the music and started a business, which resulted in him having a break from drumming for four years. Sherryn must have realised how much he missed it, as she bought him a drum set from Cash Converters, and now he’s back into drumming!

With many tourists visiting Deloraine, hungry for attractions, Andi started pulling musicians from everywhere to perform. Andi closed his shop late last year, but he’s still going with his music, joining the Arts Deloraine committee, and the Big Band. Andi is also a consultant for local schools and the local council. He is owner of 3rd Room Music Production, where he is a teacher, mentor, consultant, arranger and composer.
And now he’s bringing his drumming to the Pocket Park. Everyone is welcome – all ages, all abilities. “Music is art, it’s popular, and neurologically helps brain development. But the government has cut funding for music. So sad! If you’re passionate about music, come and sharpen your passion with me – practice makes perfect, as they say!” Andi says.
What you can expect at one of Andi’s sessions: Music Crews Mentoring starts at 10am. Music Crews play a vital role in bringing musical projects to life, and crews include such varied roles as stage crew, stage manager, PR, MC, photographer, choreographer, tech support etc. If you’re interested in learning more about being part of a crew, this is the place for you!
At 11am tuition starts – focusing on the fundamentals and essentials of drumming, and this is followed at 12 by Andi’s 3D Drums Ensemble: The Beat, the Brain, and the Body. This will improve participants abilities and give everyone a great chance to practice, after all, practice makes perfect!
And finally at 1pm there’s going to be some great Live Music, which will be introducing music, rhythm, and collaborations. There will be musicians from Burnie, Hobart and the East Coast and all around Tasmania and the mainland.
These sessions cost $10 for adults and $5 for children, but even if you aren’t interested in learning drumming, you can still come along afterwards and enjoy the music!
In other news, the TSO screening is happening again on the 30th of August – the last Sunday of the month – at 4pm at the Meander Valley Performing Arts Centre (the Little Theatre). In August we have Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto, featuring American violinist Benjamin Beilman.
