For Trinity Pfeiffer, owner of The Tea Equation in Prospect, her journey began with a clear ambition. She wanted to create something uniquely Tasmanian, and when she discovered that tea could be grown in Tasmania and was already being produced on local farms, the idea immediately captured her interest.
The Tea Equation began as a small market stall selling tea on Saturdays. Trinity purchased the business in mid-2022 with plans to rebrand it and move into a new market. The business invested in two commercial tea-bagging machines that place tea into a bag and seal it in an individual envelope, creating a high quality product suitable for accommodation providers. “The wholesale offering took off far quicker than expected,” Pfeiffer says.

Today the business offers more than 40 blends. Its green, oolong and black teas come from a small farm in the Huon Valley, and other ingredients are sourced from Tasmanian growers wherever possible. The retail space in Prospect has also grown to include curated local products including books, gifts, crafts and edible treats.
Locals, tourists and tour groups often arrive fascinated by the idea that tea can be grown in Tasmania. They enjoy being able to taste and take home something that is produced locally, while Tasmanians appreciate supporting a business that showcases Tasmanian producers.

Community support has shaped the business in unexpected ways. “We originally operated purely as a wholesale supplier, but so many people arrived at our door wanting to buy tea directly that we decided to open a retail store too!”
Seeing Tea Equation blends stocked at places like MACq01 and Freycinet Lodge has been especially rewarding for Trinity and The Tea Equation. These locations hold a special place in the Tasmanian experience and help visitors connect with her product. Another recent milestone was getting The Tea Equation tea stocked on the new Spirit of Tasmania.
Looking ahead, creativity continues to drive the business. Right now the shop has been transformed into a Christmas attraction featuring Santa, reindeers, a sleigh display and activities for families. In the long term Trinity plans to offer tea and other treats like cake in-store.
You can visit The Tea Equation at 49 Meander Valley Road Prospect. Until Christmas, the shop is open 7 days a week from 9am-5pm on weekdays and 9am-3pm on weekends.
