The last 3 months the Central North Division has shown some pleasing decreases in many crime and public order categories. For example:

  • Total offences down by 25%
  • Operational incidents attended down 12%
  • Offences against property down by 31%
  • Public Place Assaults down by 54%
  • Building burglary offences down by 22%
  • Shoplifting up by 20% – however there has only been a slight increase in Deloraine but a large decrease in Westbury

Part of the reason for the decrease in many crime categories is the attention police are giving to checking persons who are on bail and subject to a residential curfew. We make no apologies for knocking on doors at any time of the night to check that a person on bail is abiding by their bail conditions.

Letter to the Editor

The Christmas period was busy for police but no major incidents for the area. Party in the Paddock has just finished for 2026 and I must say the overall behaviour of the crowd was excellent. At the event we used local police, drone operators, drug officers, drug dogs and traffic police. It was disappointing though to see a high number of drivers test positive for drugs when leaving the event on Monday.

A reminder for any groups that wish to organise a protest on or near a public street, they must apply for a permit though the Tasmania Police website. Police have issued permits for small groups to lawfully protest in Deloraine. Please respect the rights of people to protest lawfully.

Police will be focusing on road safety for the coming months. Fatal and serious crashes for the division is consistent with previous years but we would love to get those figures down to keep people safer on the roads. Officers have been instructed to focus on the fatal five – speeding, seatbelts, alcohol/drugs, fatigue and distraction – so please take the time to follow the road rules.

Local police have a large area to cover so you may not always see us in the major towns, but we are only a phone call away, if you need us for a non-life-threatening emergency then please call 131 444. The Deloraine Police Station is still open to the public 5 days a fortnight but there is a 24 hour intercom for anyone who needs assistance. If you have a community concern then please contact us or chat to the local council, as we have a close working relationship with Meander Valley Council.
