Deloraine has been named Tasmania’s Top Small Tourism Town, recognised for its charm, creativity, and strong community spirit that continues to attract visitors seeking an authentic Tasmanian experience.

The award was announced as part of the 2025 Top Tourism Town Awards, presented by the Tourism Industry Council Tasmania (TICT). The program celebrates towns that excel in delivering outstanding visitor experiences while demonstrating strong collaboration between local businesses and residents.

Letter to the Editor

The successful nomination was submitted by the Great Western Tiers Tourism Association, with support from our passionate community, Meander Valley Council and Visit Northern Tasmania. Their entry showcased Deloraine as a vibrant and welcoming destination that offers something truly special for every visitor.

Set along the banks of the Meander River and overlooked by the iconic Western Tiers, Deloraine is widely known for its arts and crafts culture, historic architecture, and warm hospitality. It hosts the largest working craft fair in the Southern Hemisphere and offers a variety of farm gate experiences, boutique stores, scenic picnic spots, and riverside walkways.

The town also enjoys a unique position within the Meander Valley region, often described as Tasmania’s short walks capital. A title earned through its diverse and accessible network of trails. From gentle riverside strolls to rainforest paths and panoramic lookouts, the region invites visitors of all ages and abilities to connect with nature at their own pace.

This achievement not only celebrates Deloraine’s tourism strengths but also highlights the power of a connected and passionate community. It reflects years of dedicated effort from local operators, volunteers, and residents who take pride in showcasing the best of what their town has to offer.

With this state win, Deloraine now advances to the national stage as Tasmania’s representative in the Australian Top Tourism Town Awards. The national winners will be announced at a ceremony in Canberra on 3 September, where Deloraine will compete for recognition as Australia’s best small tourism town.

The award is a timely reminder of the important role regional communities play in Tasmania’s visitor economy and a proud moment for the Meander Valley region as a whole.
