Junior sport in the Meander Valley region received a welcome boost with the official launch of the Jackson Ford Junior Development Program, supported by a $5,000 sponsorship from Jackson Ford.

The launch took place at the Deloraine Squash Clubrooms on Wednesday 4 February at 5:00pm, drawing junior players, their families and members of the wider club community.

Letter to the Editor

Meander Valley Mayor Wayne Johnston and Deputy Mayor Stephanie Cameron were among those in attendance, marking the occasion alongside club representatives and sponsors.

As part of the partnership, Jackson Ford presented a $5,000 cheque to the club, along with branded windcheaters for junior members. The funding will go directly towards junior development costs, including court hire, equipment and coaching expenses.

Club President Cory Youd welcomed the support, highlighting the significance of the investment for local players. “This partnership with Jackson Ford allows us to invest directly in our junior members and ensure they have access to quality coaching and facilities,” Mr Youd said. “For regional kids, opportunities in sport can sometimes be harder to access, with families often travelling long distances just so their children can participate. Support like this helps level the playing field and keeps our young athletes engaged.”

The new sponsorship is aimed at strengthening the junior pathway for local athletes, providing resources to help develop skills and ensure ongoing participation. The program is designed to support players at all stages, with an emphasis on access, engagement and confidence-building.

Dealer Principal Tristan Hall said Jackson Ford was proud to contribute to the growth of junior sport in the area. “Our team is committed to delivering a customer experience that goes beyond the vehicle,” Mr Hall said. “Supporting local junior sport is an important part of that commitment, and we’re proud to partner with the Deloraine Squash Club on this exciting junior development program.”

During the launch event, junior players were enthusiastic about receiving their new windcheaters and were eager to return to the courts. Many took the opportunity to train, learn new skills and test their abilities in games.

The Deloraine Squash Club offers a welcoming environment for junior players of all ages and abilities. The Jackson Ford Junior Development Program is expected to enhance opportunities for participation and encourage long-term involvement in the sport.
